World War II Band of Sisters

Coming in 2025

The Band of Sisters series will consist of history reports that feature the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in World War II.

The first book in the Band of Sisters series will be a unit history of the 149th WAAC Post Headquarters Company, the first WAAC unit to be deployed to a combat zone.  Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa began on November 8, 1942.  The 149th WAAC Post Headquarters Company arrived in January 1943 in Algiers, North Africa, for duty at the Allied Force Headquarters (AFHQ).  After the Allied invasion of mainland Italy on September 3, 1943, the AFHQ including the 6666th WAC Company (redesignated when the WAAC was disbanded) arrived in the summer of 1944 in Italy.  The 6666th WAC Company was stationed in Italy until the end of the war.
