21st Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment
The 21st Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized and mustered into active Federal service for the Spanish American War fought in 1898 between the United States and Spain. The officers and soldiers of the regiment were from farms, small towns, and Kansas City, Kansas.
The regiment was stationed at Camp George H. Thomas at Chickamauga, Georgia and prepared for battle in Cuba, but the war ended earlier than expected. The 21st Kansas was among many regiments in southern camps that prepared for war but suffered casualties not in battle but from disease.
